Update On Successful Bottle Drive |
 |
The Terry Fox Secondary 2018 Legacy Team would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to our fantastic community for their support of our bottle drive this past Sunday. It was a rainy and cold day but our students did not let a little wet weather stop them. With the bottle and cans donated by our community, we were able to raise a substantial donation for our chosen charity, Be The Love. The Legacy team thanks everyone for their continued support this year.

MAKING THE MOST OF SECONDARY SCHOOL Starting high school is a big and exciting change. As parents of children with extra support needs, we have questions and concerns about the differences between Middle School and High School. We wonder how our children will cope, what kinds of supports they will receive, and how we can continue to ensure that they receive meaningful educational opportunities that support their future goals. Provincial Numeracy Assessment |
 |
This year, the BC Ministry of Education has implemented a Graduation Numeracy Assessment and will be introduced to students in January 2018. It is a graduation requirement on the 2018 Graduation Program. This year (2017/18) students in Grade 10 and 11 and beyond are on the Graduation 2018 program and therefore must complete the Numeracy Assessment in order to graduate. All students who are currently taking Math this semester and who are in Grade 10 or 11 should view the assessment schedule on the window of the Main Office for their date, time and location. These assessments will be held on January 22nd, 23rd and 24th. There are no walk-ins.
Some important facts about the assessment include the following:
- The Numeracy Assessment will not be tied to any course but will measure student proficiency in numeracy.
- A number from 1-4 (representing 4 proficiency categories: emerging-developing-proficient-extending) will appear on the student's transcript as a 2018 Graduation Program Requirement
- Students can improve their proficiency by rewriting the assessment twice during their graduation years (grades 10 -12).
For more information on the Numeracy Assessment please visit: Numeracy Assessment Draft and for a Sample of the Numeracy Assessment .
General Provincial Exam information can be viewed at the BC Ministry of Education website: http://www.bced.gov.bc.ca/exams/
If you have any school based questions please contact Ms. Walton (Vice Principal) or one of the school counsellors.
