Seasons Greetings From Heather Murphy |
 |
I am so proud to work at Terry Fox Secondary School. What an amazing and consistently generous school community we have! As usual, you have opened your hearts and helped us provide a little bit of Christmas Cheer for so many needy families. We helped sponsor four families in our community and we collected 100’s of presents and gift cards for SHARE. Entire classes, many staff members, and oh so many of our families came together and contributed so much. Thank you! I would like to wish you and your family all of the love, joy, and thankfulness that this season can give. I hope everyone spends time with good friends and cherished family members over the holidays. I hope that everyone puts down their phones and only picks them up to take some pictures of the laughs. Enjoy and celebrate every special moment! From my family to yours, we wish you the best of the New Year! Be safe, be kind and be appreciative! Warm hugs, Heather

Legacy Bottle Drive |
 |
Students from Terry Fox Secondary are working on their Grad 2018 Legacy Project and raising funds for a foundation called "Be the Love" based in Uganda, which provide resources and opportunities for underprivileged children. Anything you can give is much appreciated.
They will be collecting clean recyclables in your area on January 7th, so label your items and leave them on your doorstep for 9am where they are easily visible. You can also drop off any bottles at the school (1260 Riverwood Gate, Port Coquitlam) between 9am - 3pm. Thank you for your support! Form To Label Recyclables

Provincial Numeracy Assessment |
 |
This year, the BC Ministry of Education has implemented a Graduation Numeracy Assessment and will be introduced to students in January 2018. It is a graduation requirement on the 2018 Graduation Program. This year (2017/18) students in Grade 10 and 11 and beyond are on the Graduation 2018 program and therefore must complete the Numeracy Assessment in order to graduate.
Some important facts about the assessment include the following:
- The Numeracy Assessment will not be tied to any course but will measure student proficiency in numeracy.
- A number from 1-4 (representing 4 proficiency categories: emerging-developing-proficient-extending) will appear on the student's transcript as a 2018 Graduation Program Requirement
- Students can improve their proficiency by rewriting the assessment twice during their graduation years (grades 10 -12).
For more information on the Numeracy Assessment please visit: Numeracy Assessment Draft and for a Sample of the Numeracy Assessment .
General Provincial Exam information can be viewed at the BC Ministry of Education website: http://www.bced.gov.bc.ca/exams/
If you have any school based questions please contact Ms. Walton (Vice Principal) or one of the school counsellors.
